The Winners Every Time Wanda Hartley Butts 7/29/13 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Psalms 37:1 - 5 (KJV) Life for most of us usually moves along on an even keel until something happens that stops us in our tracks - a disaster, defeat, disappointment, disease, distress in relationships, financial dilemmas, or a thousand other things that fall on us like a spring shower without warning. And to make matters even worse, sometimes during these difficulties wrong seems to win over right, and those who cheat come out ahead, while those who play by the rules lose. Situations like this leave believers shaking their heads at the circumstances, and sometimes they may feel like shaking their fists at God. Wait a minute! Isn’t God on our side? Isn’t He for us, and not against us? But here King David writes this poem that tells us not to worry because of those who do evil, nor be envious of them! He proclaims that they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither. And, in the rest of these verses David tells us to continue trusting in the Lord, and doing good while we delight in him. Also, he says to remain committed to the Lord until he shall bring it to pass. Bring what to pass? –the cutting of the grass! Getting rid of evil workers is the Lord’s work. Our work is to trust the Lord to do what he says he is going to do. In John 15:5 (KJV) Jesus said: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Our Lord is in the fruit production business. The branches he plants will produce fruit. Grass doesn’t produce anything but grass. Like a good farmer, the Lord will cut the grass, so his plants will receive more nourishment to produce the fruit he intends for them to produce. So, if you are one of his branches, you have a productive life ahead of you, and have nothing to fret about. You are on the winning side, so just keep trusting the Lord; things will turn out far better than you think right now! Praise: The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. Psalms 34:16 (KJV) Promises: For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. Psalms 37:10 (KJV). But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (KJV) Prayer: Lord, Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Psalms 23:5 (KJV) Thanks for your blessings. Amen
