The World 2013 – A Tender Box History has proven that Americans tend to close their eyes or look the other way when there are issues that they do not want involvement in or do not understand. In the late Thirties a movement of destruction was taking hold on the world around us and most Americans wanted nothing to do with it until the moment that it hit home. This may be caused by the American lifestyle or a natural form of self preservation. It is also true that we don’t always pay attention to the lessons of history or learn from our mistakes. I am not saying that we need to or should be involved with all of the issues abroad. However, we as Americans should be aware of issues in the world around us so we may continue to enjoy the American way of life. Today, much like the 1930’s, the world is a tender box awaiting a spark. We the citizens of this great nation should be aware of the thin line of security on which we walk. We should be aware of the issues of other countries so that we may voice educated suggestions and opinions to our government and that we may be prepared, if need be, to preserve our way of life. To follow are examples of just how fragile the world is today. • Iraq & Afghanistan – Continued fighting with US military and civilian contractors. • North & South Korea – High tension and armament with mobilized forces on each boarder. • North Korea & Japan – Heightened tension over missile testing and now the threat of nuclear contamination. • China & Japan – Land disputes. • Syria – Civil unrest - chemical war threats and possible usage - US President wants to attack, UN says no - Russia, China, and Iran back Syrian regime. • Israel – Under constant threat and continued missile attack by Palestinian rebels supported by Iran – Russia states willing to back with arms and assist in building nuclear plants. • Egypt – Civil unrest/war – Government takeover . • Libya – More rebel bombing in Benghazi (still no answers on the attack of our embassy). • Philippines – Islamic extremist – fighting erupts almost daily. • Hungary – Financial distress – banking failing. • Romania – Financial distress – borrows 4 Billion dollars from IMF. • Croatia & Latvia – EU members in extreme financial distress. • Russia & Ukraine – High tension as Ukraine moves closer to joining the EU and breaking from the Kremlin. • Kosovo & Serbia – Serbs refuse to recognize Kosovo’s 2008 independence – Protests and violence in the streets. • The Quiet Wars – the forgotten and overlooked – The Central and Southern African Continent – War torn – Torture, rape, starvation, murder, and genocide – Hushed, quieted, and swept under the rug. I bring these issues to light so that you may realize just how fragile our world truly is, so that you may prepare and educate yourself to provide a better future and maintain the American way of life.
