The World´s Lowest Crime Rate Our homes are open for everyone. We do not close our doors and our parked cars are often not locked and have the car keys left in them. We feel so safe here on the Faroe Islands and have so little crime rate that if you in your car happened to accidentally hit one of the many thousands of free-range sheep that walk freely all over our isles then it would be almost breaking news in every media here. The biggest newspaper in Spain, El Pais, has set out to figure out how Jógvan Isaksen, an international acknowledged Faroese writer, can have so much international success as a crime fictional writer when he is based on the beautiful Faroe Islands where crime almost does not exist at all. How does he find inspiration in such a peaceful place? One must be very inventive, but the scenery is very good, says Jógvan Isaksen to the Spanish newspaper. The atmosphere here on the Faroe Islands is excellent for fictional detective stories. Each time a character opens the door, you are the rain, the fog and the wind. You can not ignore the unique ever present nature here. With great scenery and solitude this is an excellent place to put crime stories. Yeah, except for the fact that in reality there are no crimes here. Well, then it all depends on your imagination, laughs Jógvan Isaksen in the Spanish El Pais. If you are interested in reading international acclaimed Faroes crime books, or other Faroese literature, that often is published in many various foreign languages, then you can buy them here cheaper than anywhere else in the world, as our many bookstores charge no additional fees and have no taxes on books sold here on the Faroe Islands. That also includes foreign literature sold in the Faroe Islands.
