The absolute WORST thing about my time as a head coach was cutting - TopicsExpress

The absolute WORST thing about my time as a head coach was cutting kids during tryouts. There was one year when I would have had to cut about 13 kids and I didnt want to. Instead I made the first 2-3 days of tryouts so intense physically and mentally that almost all of those cut themselves. Still had to tell one or two that they could NOT play this year and that sucked. That was the WORST part of coaching. Now, I find myself in a similar situation... only this time when I say NO, it isnt career ending...lol. I do NOT know yet all of the KCF2015 details. So I dont know things like how long we can go, how many hours we have available, whether or not we can have a 2nd stage/acoustic tent, things like that. So I do NOT know how many bands I can even look to bring in. I do know that we will once again, have a little something for everyone. I know that we will bring back several KCF staples. We will also bring in a some bands that are brand new to KCF even though they may have played in other A1M events, and we will also be bringing in some bands that are brand new to A1M fans. Right now, after restarting that list at the end of 2012, there are still approximately 240+ bands/performers asking for one of these 25 or so slots. So there is a whole lot of me having to say no to bands who really want to play there. I hated saying NO while coaching and I hate saying NO while putting the bands together for this as well. So now the fun begins, sorting and checking out hundreds of bands. Going to physically see some of these bands and ultimately putting the lineup together for KCF2015. It is not an easy task. To find the balance between genres, between familiar faces and newcomers, to find the right mix....its hard. But the hardest thing is telling bands not this year, just like it was tough to cut players.
