The academic consensus on how much protein you should eat for - TopicsExpress

The academic consensus on how much protein you should eat for muscle building is 80-120grams. Check out Brad Pilons book, How Much Protein, which references dozens of peer reviewed studies that reference this topic. Further, I know a UF Sports Nutrition PhD who works with the football team: she says for the skill athletes (not the ones who benefit from extra fat) she prescribes 130 grams of protein per day on the high end. Google searches should also affirm this number; if they dont reference a university study then its bro science. Basically what Im saying is, dont add calories to your diet just to hit your protein totals. If you can hit these numbers by substituting, thats great, and youll probably lose extra weight too. But dont believe in the bulking myths. As youll see in Brads book, it is highly contentious whether you can increase the rate of muslce building by adding calories. - letter to a fan
