The allowances paid to the district advisory councilors will be increased from next year. A special allocation of six hundred and forty thousand dollars has been given to the Ministry for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management to cater for this. Minister Joeli Cawaki says the allowances will now be up to par with the Turaga Ni Koros. “This is a new allocation and it has been revised because of the vast area covered by the district advisory councils in their responsibility and their roles, this again is aimed and enhancing services to our multi-ethnic communities in the Rural and maritime areas’’.
