Like the mamba this snake will occupy the same retreat if not disturbed. Two colour variations occur: plain brown variation and a banded variation. This snake is active during the early parts of the day when it basks as well as early evenings when it starts to forage for food. they feed primarily on rodents, birds, frogs and other snakes. Anchietas cobras grow to a max length of 2.3m and is considered to be Namibias largest cobra species. When cornered this snake will spread a broad and impressive hood and strike readily at the threat, given the opportunity this snake will drop down and slither away. These cobras have a extremely potent neurotoxic which affects the breathing and may result respiratory failure if not treated promptly. First aid measures: keep the victim calm and reassured, the victim should kept still. Transport to hospital ASAP. if help is far away; apply pressure bandage and split the limb, if required resort to artificial respiration. This snake is NOT responsible for a lot of bites in Namibia.
