The ancient Egyptians believed that to speak the name of the dead - TopicsExpress

The ancient Egyptians believed that to speak the name of the dead is to make him live again. Although my father, Arthur A. Nickerson, has been gone 27 years today, I am comforted by my memories of him. There was a long period of time when every memory was tinged with sadness, always mourning what was and could not be anymore. Thankfully, several years ago, I sought counseling for another issue and wound up addressing my feelings about this loss. Using the awesome tools and exercises my therapist gave me, I was able to move past the hurt and just focus on how blessed I am to have had such an awesome father. I sit here this morning and Im smiling because I feel his presence. I remember his voice - the timbre of it, deep and rumbling, I loved how I felt it as much as I heard it; his laugh - deep belly laughs that made you laugh along; his hugs - being in his arms is still the place I think of when someone asks if you could go any place in the world, where would it be? Through this experience, Ive learned that love transcends space and time. Those that we have loved never really leave us. They become part of our story. Part of what makes us uniquely us. Those of you that knew him, know he wasnt one for sadness. He was big on celebrations. Today my mom and I will celebrate him. We will toast to him and to a love that will never be forgotten. I hope youll join us.
