The annual Adair County Ag Day on March 17th will feature the traditional trade show displays and free lunch along with an informational program. The program, “Smart Choices in Health Coverage: An Education and Outreach program for Iowans,” should be of interest to all as you will be equipped with health insurance information to better understand your options and obligations under the Affordable Care Act. The Smart Choices program is part of an Iowa State outreach effort especially targeted to rural counties, including Adair County. “It’s a timely issue and an incredible teachable moment,” states Suzanne Bartholomae, state extension specialist. “This is information that’s going to potentially save consumers money and feed back into local economies.” Joyce Lash, ISU Extension and Outreach Family Finance Program Specialist, is slated to present the Smart Choices program from 10:00-10:30 am at the small meeting room of the 4-H/FFA Center during the annual Ag Day. The goal of the workshop and information with Smart Choices is to increase consumer’s health insurance literacy and skill building. Ag Day will feature business and sponsor displays from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. including many door prizes. Lunch will be served beginning at 11:00 a.m. The meal is provided by the Adair County Cattlemen, Adair County Corn and Soybean Association, Adair County Farm Bureau, and the Adair County Pork Producers. Free will donations will be accepted to be used to provide beef, pork, and ethanol certificates to local food pantries. Additional sponsors include Adair County Extension, Adair County Fair Board, and the Greenfield Chamber/Main Street. Anyone interested in having an indoor or outdoor display at the Ag Day event should contact the Greenfield Chamber/Main Street office at 641-743-8444.
