The annual Calleva Symposium 2014 Conference will be happening this Saturday 14th June at 2pm at Magdalen College Auditorium. The Calleva Research Centre for Evolution and Human Science aims to study the origins of human behaviour by forging interdisciplinary, collaborative links. This years keynote speaker is Toby Kiers on The Punishment Wars: What can humans learn from conflict, cooperation and economics in nature?. Professor Kiers is University Research Chair and Professor of Mutualistic Interactions at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Her most recent work focuses on trading in nature and how complex biological markets can emerge among plants and microbes, and has been used to inform current conservation approaches and global agricultural policy. As this years Symposium marks the end of the Centres first programme of research, talks will also be given to celebrate the research achievements of the Centre: Facing their fears: anxiety and the teenage brain, Dr Anneke Haddad Social networking in teens, Dr Stephanie Burnett Heyes Confidence matching in social interactions, Mr Dan Bang This will be followed by talks introducing the next two exciting projects: Was Shakespeare the first psychologist?, Prof Robin Dunbar Major evolutionary transitions, Prof Stuart West Tea and coffee will be served from 2.30pm with the talks starting at 3.00pm. There will be a drinks reception after. There is no charge for this event.
