The annual Hands-on Summer training programme by the Vidyasagar Institute for Bio Medical Sciences to provide an interactive platform and real time understanding of various branches of scientific study was conducted between 13th May and 7th June 2013. There were a total of 9 participants from 8 Colleges / Institutions namely Stella Maris College, Chennai (1), Madras University, Chennai (2), PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore(1), Women’s Christian College, Chennai (1), Queen Mary’s College, Chennai, (1), Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science, Sholingannallur, Chennai (1), Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Mysore (1) and SRM University, Chennai (1) of whom (4) students were posted at the R.S.Mehta Jain Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 1 student at the Sankara Nethralaya ONGC Department of Genetics & Molecular Biology and 4 students at the L & T Microbiology Research Centre. The students expressed their utmost satisfaction and happiness on the new learning and experience gained at the training programme. The participants shared their experience of the training programme at the valedictory function that was conducted on 7th June 2013, they had a high word of appreciation for all the faculty & staff involved in training them and expressed that the programme was very useful and functional to them. Dr.H.N.Madhavan, Director and Professor of L&T Microbiology Department & VIBS addressed the participants and distributed the certificates to them. Dr. N. Angayarkanni, Dr.A.J.Pandian & Dr.J.Malathi faculty members from the respective departments appreciated the deep enthusiasm and interest exhibited by the participants in learning the techniques. The participants were requested to share the knowledge gained at the programme and impart the skills to their juniors and colleagues in their respective colleges to which they happily gave their consent. The function ended with a warm vote of Thanks by Dr. K. Lily Therese, VIBS Co-coordinator, to the Medical Research Foundation and the Founder of VIBS, Padmasri Iravatham Mahadevan, I.A.S, whose most thoughtful and generous contribution helped in the creation of the VIBS in memory of his son, for providing a wonderful opportunity to train the post graduate students from various Science & Arts Colleges & Research Institutions.
