The answer I got from the SSA regarding the smelly horse trailer - TopicsExpress

The answer I got from the SSA regarding the smelly horse trailer issue. Dear Ms. Burnham, I have spoken to the crew of the Island Home and the Agent on duty when your daughter was travelling. The Island Home did transport a truck towing a horse trailer on the 1:15PM departing Woods Hole for Vineyard Haven. If the vehicle and trailer was accepted on the vessel, I am curious as to what the issue was? Was a terminal worker or vessel employee rude? If so, kindly provide more detail and I will address the issue. However, if it was because your daughter was asked if the trailer was odorous and she was offended in some way, the Steamship Authority employee(s) were only doing their job and following procedures. There is a policy in place for the shipment of certain items on Steamship Authority vessels. I have inserted that section of the policies from our Customer Policies and Procedures Handbook. The policies and procedures handbook is available on the Steamship Authority’s website and can be accessed using the link I have provided below. Kindly contact me with any further questions you may have to this regard. Yours truly, Captain Charles G. Gifford Port Captain (508.548.5011 ext. 313 8cgifford@steamshipauthority Steamship Authority’s “Customer Policies and Procedures Handbook” 3.2 Vehicles Carrying Certain Commodities.
