The authenticity or rightness and severity of ASUU strike did nt hit me hard as much as this supposedly harmless joke did below, sent to me by a friend in diaspora who probably is unaware of recent happenings in d education sector and its loggerheads. "Teacher: wat is 1 +1. Children: 8. Teacher: correct. So what is 5 +2. Children: 14. Teacher: correct. Hmmm so wat is 6 + 4. Children; 20. Teacher: correct, its gonna remain like that until the government increases my salary" yes the joke hit me hard that i naturally realize why we, inspite of d abundance of human and natural resources still continue to occupy the back seat in education among the comity of states. Logically then i really could understand the functional prerequisite of the production of quack and halfbake graduates and unemployables. The total lack of motivation in terms of reward and dilapidated structures and equipment have led to lecturers total unconcern towards the youths, the leaders of tomorrow. The result: the poverty of ideas and the ideas of poverty. A cyclical trap of underdevelopment. God help us! Zephaniah Osuyi Edo Political Commentator
