The author makes an astute analysis as to the nature of Putins motivation for the invasion of Crimea. It is not economics or geopolitics, but is an ideology of expansionist nationalism. Ideologues are not subdued with economic sanctions, and they are not satisfied with being guaranteed a sphere of geopolitical influence. According to Putin’s expansionist ideology, the historic mission of Russia is to undermine and destroy the foundations of liberal democracy. Sadly, this perspective makes sense, and is more frightening than any other. What do you think?
