The band can be traced back as far as vocalist Piet Sielck and guitarist Kai Hansens school act Gentry. They took part in a school competition with a combination of original songs and covers from Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. A demo was recorded before the addition of drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg and bassist Markus Grosskopf and a name change to Second Hell. Tracks written during this period, such as Gorgar, Phantoms of Death, Murder and Victim of Fate would later appear on early Helloween releases. Gamma Rays Heading for Tomorrow was also written during this period. As Helloweens career took off, Piet Sielck worked as a studio engineer. Eventually Piet Sielck and Kai Hansen decided to form Iron Savior in 1996. Their debut album also featured Thomen Stauch and Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian. -bez-
