The best method of addressing poverty, aside from dismantling big governments stranglehold on failed education which would improve education, is to reduce the costs of goods and services, which increases the value of income. Artificially increasing income through the minimum wage does nothing to address poverty and increases the costs of goods and services. There are emotional arguments, not based in economics, with buzzwords like human dignity, that argue the opposite of what I have said. Though those individuals may truly care about the poor, their advocacy for these failed ideas actually harms the poor. Government has tripled, in real values, their welfare spending to end poverty, with over 125 different programs at the federal level alone. After spending an enormous amount of money, the poverty rate in this country has barely budged. In the pursuit of advancing emotional arguments, progressives have ignored solid logic and failed to learn from mistakes, hoping that human nature will finally be perfect so their utopia will finally succeed. This pseudo-religion of progressivism is highly unscientific despite the left thinking they have a monopoly on science, which is why it continues to fail. When emotional arguments are advanced without considering all variables or long term impacts, society suffers for it. Topical feel good progressive poverty solutions often have the opposite and negative effect. Conservatives want to put into place policies that actually help the poor, not the policies that progressives have used for decades which have been failing the poor, and in many cases increasing or trapping people in poverty.
