The best thing about dreams is that sometimes they come true. - TopicsExpress

The best thing about dreams is that sometimes they come true. Seven months ago, I dreamt I was running this trail. When I reached the top of a hill, I stopped to watch the sun rise as light caressed the leaves of the forest. No one other than me was in this dream. For a moment, nothing else mattered. It was beautiful. When I woke up, I was in my bed as a patient in a nursing home staring up at the pitch black darkness in my room. It was around three in the morning. During my dream about running, my right leg moved and fell off the bed. The pain was unbelievable as tears streamed down my face and I started to scream. I called for a nurse, and he came with three pills of oxycodone ready. The nurse was surprised when I told him to take the pills away and bring ice. This incident happened on the first night after I decided that I would no longer take pain medication, only two weeks into my recovery. Learning to run again has not been easy. I am slow. On a good run my average mile is only slightly better than half the speed I used to have. My balance feels off as the right leg is still heavier than the left. But every single day I get a little bit stronger and faster. In early July, I wrote in a Facebook post that I think the bad days in life are just there to make the good ones more meaningful. Ive run this trail hundreds of times, but it has never felt quite like this before. Small moments like todays run are the reasons why life is so precious. When I cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon in April, I hope to look back on this experience as something that made me a better person. Thank you to everyone reading this message for your support and for being the inspiration behind my recovery. As we celebrate this holiday season, please consider visiting the below link and making a tax-deductible contribution to the Martin Richard Foundation. I chose to support the Martin Richard Foundation in my run this year because I was running towards the finish line to pray for Martin, the youngest victim of the 2013 marathon bombings, when my accident happened. I think that anything good we can do in this kids name is a cause worth giving to. firstgiving/fundraiser/KevinKoncilja/bostonmarathon2015
