The big question buzzing right now is can Philadelphia win with the current wide recievers that they have on the roster? Obviously its a no brainer, cutting Desean Jackson was a dumb move being the simple fact that the recievers on the roster at the time of cutting him were; -TWO recievers coming off ACL surgery (Jeremy Maclin and Arrelious Benn who has 59 catches for 862 yards and 5 touchdowns in his career) -Riley Cooper who had a huge year and showed he can be a legitimate #2 Reciever when given the oppurtunity -Damaris Johnson (career 21 catches for 270 yards) -Jeff Maehl who knew the system (career 4 catches 67 yards 1 touchdown) -And last but not least Brad Smith who has been a good career backup but only had 2 catches for 27 yards last year while playing numerous positions in limited action. During the off-season the Birds signed the 6 foot 8 Ifeanyi Momah to a future contract, traded for RB Darren Sproles who is probably the ultimate compliment back to Lesean Mccoy; and they drafted Vanderbilts Jordan Matthews, and Oregons Josh Huff... Rookies. Say what you will but these guys can ball. Chip Kellys system paid off for Riley Cooper who had career highs of 23 catches 315 yards and 3 touchdowns before Chip Kelly. He had 47 catches 835 yards and 8 touchdowns last year. Many say that is because of Desean Jackson opening up space, which is true because his speed.. but what about the times when Jax took plays off? Got taken out of games? Against New Orleans he was completely shut down and Riley Cooper was one caught pass away from helping us reach the next round. Its the system, it pays off for guys who put in work. Jeremy Maclin looked brilliant in camp before his injury. Jordan Matthews has the potential to be great and he is already training with the best in the league. How do you cover the likes of Riley Cooper, Jeremy Maclin, Arrelious Benn, Jordan Matthews, or Josh Huff when they are put in position to make plays by their coach, when you also have to account for RB Lesean Mccoy arguably the best in the league, Darren Sproles, AND a tight end combo that combined for 68 catches 971 yards and 10 touchdowns in Brent Celek and Zach Ertz? James Casey wasnt even a factor after he signed a significant deal and he had 3 catches for 31 yards. So Chip Kellys offense is generating 70 catches 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns strictly from its tight ends. YIKES! There are to many guys on the field who can make plays, and THAT is why they will compete. Last season teams had to worry about 3 guys. Now they have to worry about 10. This team has to much depth. Most teams in the NFL dont even have enough speed on their defense to cover that many guys. Can the Eagles win the current state of their Wide Reciever Position? Yes, yes they can. And they will, with a little help from their teammates. -Nick
