It bisects the opportunities for these animals to go find the resources that they need, such as water, or food, or mates.” This is called habitat fragmentation, and it’s causing a chain reaction of interrelated negative consequences for the borderland region, including loss of biodiversity, invasive species and soil erosion that not only threaten the survival of many already endangered species like the jaguar and the ocelot, but also threaten humans.
