The borough assembly will take up an almost 800 page packet this Tuesday at their regular 6pm meeting. One resolution contained in the packet being brought forth by Assemblyman Arvin will direct the manager to research, plan and prepare creation of an economic development corporation with implementation to begin July 2014. Should the public be concerned that this could be a set up for a limited public accountability of local quasi-public development corporations? What would be the full impact of setting this up and committing the borough to a whole new way of doing business that very well could be even more out of the public view? Will it result in declarations of less transparency in the name of asserting that successful redevelopment required secrecy and autonomy in negotiations with private partners who required quick action and flexibility. Could also be a way to slow down projects and stall funding for projects not desired by some members? There is no public testimony required on a resolution like this brought forward. Thoughts?
