The brief comment from me shown on TV3 tonight gave the impression I support Len Brown resigning because of his 2-year affair. I dont. I think he should resign and seek another mandate because without doing so he will become a lame duck mayor for the next three years just as Bill Clinton became a lame duck president after his infidelities were exposed. A lame duck is the last thing Auckland needs. And I should say to those who believe Len Brown is a left-of-centre mayor who deserves support on that basis that he is in fact well to the right on all the key issues facing Auckland. Despite being endorsed by the Labour Party and City Vision he signed up to the destruction of Glen Innes, Point England and Panmure where state houses are being removed to create a seaside suburb for the rich while the poor are to be housed in vertical slums. He also supports the pokies for convention centre deal against the wishes of the majority in Auckland and the majority of councillors and he refused and still refuses to support the port workers who are today under attack from Ports of Auckland. During the election campaign he shifted his position on the living wage to endorse it in principle but with so many conditions it accounts for very little. I could go on but that will have to do for now.
