The challenge of modern composers: use the ancient texts to write music that flows from the chant tradition but is accessible to the average pew person. I was listening to a vidclip from a jazz-rock parish. The musicians had turned the mass into a burlesque by adding instruments, changing the syncopation style and revoicing the chords. Without the words there was no way to tell it was a Mass. The secularization and protestantization of the Mass has not produced good fruits.
