The church developed a system in America to learn. Education beginning with hornbooks and primers, denominations started schools during the westward expansion. Structure and responsibility was passed into the hands of government. There was a new focus on the scientific method and the industrial revolution. They lessened the importance of values, morality, and the arts. They lessened the encouragement of religious freedom. Darwinism and the removal of prayer from schools, many people blame for the secularization of education. These are only byproducts of a greater issue. Secularization was brought about by abandonment.
