The church thinks in centuries not in years. This was a remark of a person on BBC. The statement is indeed profound that it captured my thoughts. It evoked also a direct contrasting statement, which has become quite popular among evangelical Christians, the church should lead The difference is obvious, the first claims the sluggishness of the church while the second the leadership of the church in areas of progressive change. In reality, however, the two statement are aired from different perspectives. The first one is positivist ( a mere description of the reality) while the second statement is normative ( a prescriptive notion) statement. The two are not, however, contradictory. The first duly recognizes the communal nature of the church and the second the enlightened individual(s) within the church. The communal nature of the church makes inevitable waiting the others as fellow companions on the ground that further inclusion could be exclusion of the present companions. The implication is delay, our actions to lag behind enlightened individual convictions centuries behind where the should be becoming our wish (goal). The Journey of the church is , therefore, always a journey of repentance, a failure to act duly.
