The cold is here, and the flock was happy to sunbathe during foraging time this afternoon. Gosh, said Buttercup, the sun seems to go down too quickly these days. We have to soak up as much as we can. Unfortunately, something spooked everyone, so they spent most of their last hour hiding under the Holly and the Azaleas. Ms. Kat gave them some extra scratch to help them maintain their body heat through the night. As a precaution, Ms. Kat dumped out all of the water containers, just in case the temperatures dip around freezing. Last thing I need is to try to open frozen water dishes. And its impossible to run electricity to all of the runs, or Id give them all water heaters. Last year, the Littles had an electrical fire in their run. That scared everyone. Ms. Kat reported to the High Council that she collected 11 eggs--five from the Comets, four from the Littles, and one each from Cordelia and the Groupers. I need to wash eggs, said Ms. Kat. The egg basket overflows. Im hoping I have enough for the Thanksgiving orders, but that shouldnt be a problem if the hens keep laying this way. Helena Orpington reminded her not to count her eggs before they are laid! Ms. Kat apologized in advance to the flock in case she moves too slowly tomorrow morning. Its going to be cold. I hate cold. And I had a flu shot today, so my left arm is sore. Ill have some trouble lifting water buckets. Ill move as quickly as I can, she promised.
