The convocation of national conference as proposed by the - TopicsExpress

The convocation of national conference as proposed by the president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan is very germane at this time that Nigeria is at a cross road faced with myriads of socio-economic and political problems. The existing economic and social structures characterize with high unemployment level, religious intolerance, political and socio-economic, Boko Haram, kidnapping for ransom, armed robbery, frequent bomb explosions and pervasive insecurity are a product of disaffection and disillusionment which are indices of a breakdown in the social fabric of our society, Most of these problems are raised from our constitutional challenges that has had a history of constitutional impositions by either our colonial powers or military juntas that introduced it unilaterally. The people of Nigeria have never at any time been given the opportunity to sit down and deal with the consequences of very fundamental structural issues that arose during the times of the military. The origin of Nigeria constitution is dubious because the people never met to decide it. In the face of these realities, there appears to be every justification for a platform such as the national conference that will bring the representatives of the people together to deliberate on the future of the country. To dialogue is better than law.
