The crisis is over. All said, it took 24 billion dollars out of the economy and did nothing more than divide the country even further. Ted Cruz. A prime example of why voters need to research candidates on their own. I know its Texas, but come on! Fox News caters to under educated and hate filled voters or those who are just too lazy to verify the crap they spew, but what about the rest of them? The shutdown was caused by a new Senator, Ted Cruz who encouraged Republicans to refuse to pass a budget without concessions to Obamacare, which is already law. I could think of several things Democrats could hold the country hostage over. Voting laws, gerrymandering, the fact that Republican lawmakers blocked endless job bills. Ted Cruz, who has said his family fled Cuba after Castro overthrew the government. Heres the thing. Castro overthrew the govenment in 1959. His parents came to American in 1956. His father also fought for Castro, later claiming that he didnt realize he was a communist. Do your frickin research for crissakes. Ah. Ted Cruz father was an oil man in Canada. He owned a seismic-data processing firm for oil drillers. Good enough. On the other hand if Fox News or some other crazed media outlet claims Obama, a black man, is muslim. Bingo! Hint: if something sounds outrageous, it usually is. Use your personal knowledge, a little research on non-partisan sites such as AlterNet, The Real News, Reuters, The Independent, PBS, BBC and CSPAN. Heres a tip. The bills the Republicans refused to vote on? READ them. Understand them. Then youll understand what the rest of us do and why I switched from the Republican party so many years ago. If youre a patriotic American as you claim to be, be a responsible voter. - Colleen money.cnn/2013/10/16/news/economy/shutdown-economic-impact/ dallasnews/incoming/20111025-senate-candidate-ted-cruz-says-he-hasn-t-misled-about-father-s-exodus-from-cuba.ece
