The difference between iron and gold is objective in nature. Gold - TopicsExpress

The difference between iron and gold is objective in nature. Gold has a particular atomic weight. It is rare, highly malleable, a shining metal, not subject to corrosion. These natural qualities made it a valuable metal, even before it was made the basis for the monetary system. Fear of gold is a problem, an adhyasa. Krishna says in the Bhagwad Gita, “The one because of whom people do not get disturbed and who does not get disturbed by people… is dear to me.” To look upon gold, therefore, as a source of bondage, is sobhanadhyasa, seeing something more than what gold has got. When we interact with people, we do not see people as they are. First, we label them and then interact. We meet people the way we think they are, what they are from our own perception. We are stuck with ourselves, with our own projections, labels. We live, therefore, in an imagined world. This is adhyasa.
