The difference in Bible translations is the best reason to study - TopicsExpress

The difference in Bible translations is the best reason to study more than one of them, and to study the Greek and Hebrew meaning of the words. Translations are often created based on a consortium of personal ideals and opinions by those who are translating. Not all of them are bad, but some dont carry the full robust meaning. Take this passage from Revelation 4:11 (below), which in these very popular versions is all different. The best way to study your Bible is to study a translation you can understand, and then use Strongs Concordance to get the meaning of the words used in Greek and Hebrew. (Its online - you can Google and find it.) Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (KJV) “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (NKJV) You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (NIV) Worthy, O Master! Yes, our God! Take the glory! the honor! the power! You created it all; It was created because you wanted it. - (The Message) “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (NLT) Some of the translations use the word pleasure, which when translated is not as it seems. Pleasure in English has a meaning of a feeling of happiness, enjoyment, or satisfaction : a pleasant or pleasing feeling or something that brings enjoyment. But the word it was translated from in Greek (G2307) is thelēma, which also means that what one wills shall be done, and carries three base meanings of will, desire, and pleasure. From that we learn that it is not just because of Gods will that we were created, but also because He desired us, and found pleasure in us. Now, doesnt that feel good to know? :)
