The donors maintain that the outcome of the investigations into the plundering of public resources at Capital hill still remains a determining factor for the lifting of a suspension on budgetary support. A member of the Common Approach to Budgetary Support (CABS) team Alexander Baum, who also heads the European Union delegation to Malawi, disclosed this in an interview with Capital FM. This comes just days after the International Monitory Fund (IMF) released 20 million US dollars for Malawi, under the Extended Credit Facility program. CABS suspended up to 150 million US dollars worth of budgetary support because of the financial scandal. Baum says much as the country has won the IMF’s support, the donors still want to see financial prudence being exercised by the government.
