The dreams of some energetic and passionate females to join the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and serve the nation, have been crushed. The high-spirited females who wanted to serve in the army were sacked for having multiple ear piercings, which did not form part of the standards of the GAF. One of the females (name withheld), told Globalnewsreel she was dismissed outrightly by the recruiting officers last Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the El Wak stadium in Accra. According to her, she had gone through all the necessary documentation and body selection process successfully, after which all the candidates were directed to report at the recruitment centre [El Wak] that Thursday. When they reported at the centre Thursday morning, she noted her name was not on the list of the candidates selected to sit for the aptitude test. Why the recent craze for such things; multiple piercing and tattoos? What must we do to stop this from corrupting our culture? Is what the Army did the way Institutions should go?
