The educated individual understands that the RIFLED MUSKET was the most accurate, most deadly, most effective "assault rifle" of that time. Britain and France still deployed their soldiers with the smooth bore musket, which had an effective range of about 100 yards. The colonists used the Kentucky RIFLED musket, which had an effective range of about 200 yards, and even further in the hands of a skilled sharpshooter. This is why, in battle after battle, a couple dozen colonial militia could kick the ass of a whole company of the Kings finest. The colonists, with their "modern assault rifles" could engage the British before the British ever got within range to return fire. The only way the British could win any engagement was to over-run the militia by sheer number since the rate of fire of the rifled musket was about 4 rounds per minute in the hands of a skilled rifleman...a bloody way to win a battle, resulting is high casualty rates for the British. So when our founding fathers said you have the right to own and carry arms, what they were literally saying was you have the right to own and carry the most accurate, most deadly, most effective military assault weapon available. This ends your history lesson for today.
