“The educational system in its present form continuously - TopicsExpress

“The educational system in its present form continuously demonstrates increasing incompetence in improving the quality of life of most graduates across the globe because there is a missing link between education and (financial) success, which is not bridged by the school system” Despite the wide acceptance formal education has gained all over the world, one of the most significant questions about education that is often not asked is, “What is the relevance of education to practical life?” In other words, to what extent is education helpful in addressing practical life challenges? This question needs to be asked because the answer justifies the rationale of education. Besides, it is obvious, from daily experiences and observations, that the expected impacts of education are absent in the lives of many educated people. One of the factors that speak very eloquently on this is that education has continuously remained unable to improve the standard of living of numerous educated people, especially graduates. How many educated people are truly financially successful? Most graduates struggle all through their lives to make ends meet, but to no avail. There are numerous people who graduated from tertiary institutions (even at the top of the class), but who are far below many people with lower educational training (academic intelligence and scholarly ability) than theirs in the ladder of financial success. Perhaps, financial struggles and crises are worse among educated people. Most educated people struggle all through their working years merely to make ends meet, but to no avail, and end as liabilities during their retirement. The inability of formal educational training in academic institutions to assist graduates to acquire the basic skills for managing their real life challenges is rooted in the fact that most people are ignorant of the ideal purpose of education. It is high time the purpose of education is reconsidered. What then is the ideal purpose of education? Why should people go to school? How can education empower graduates to enjoy happier and fulfilled lives? The educational system has demonstrated increasing incompetence in improving the standard of living of most graduates because they are ignorant of the ideal answers to the above questions. The experiences of most graduates in contemporary times lend credence to the fact that education does not guarantee financial success any more. There is continuous decline in the standard of living of most graduates. As a matter of fact, many graduates are living in abject poverty. In a country like Nigeria, one of the major challenges of graduates is that the rate of unemployment is increasing at an alarming rate because the rate at which graduates are harvested from tertiary institutions annually far exceeds the rate at which job opportunities are created. Research findings lend credence to the fact that over 70% of Nigerian fresh graduates are victims of unemployment annually. As a result, graduates now compete with illiterates in menial jobs (like commercial driving, okada riding, barbing, hair dressing, etc) which were hitherto exclusively for uneducated people. Worse still, a good number of unemployed graduates cannot be self-employed. Numerous people remain dependent on their family and friends after several years of graduating from school. Some are dependent for the rest of their lives. The ugly experiences of most graduates are rooted in the fact that there is a missing link between education and financial success, which is not bridged by the school system. In the absence of the knowledge of this missing link, formal educational training will remain unable to improve the quality of life of graduates, no matter their grades, the tertiary institutions they attended or how intelligent they are. This missing link will help graduates to find and fulfill their destinies in life, even with ease. It has also been observed that most graduates are unable to achieve a happy, fulfilled and prosperous lives after their school days because they are ignorant of the right steps to take in life as graduates. What is this missing link between education and financial success? What are the right steps graduates should take immediately after their school days in order to achieve blissful, happy and prosperous lives?
