The election is days away. I cant thank everyone enough for all the support so far. There are a few things Ive been hearing lately that I feel I need to clear up. Ive not given it much thought because I knew it to be completely untrue. First I heard I was going to fire everyone at the jail. Absolutely not true. There are many excellent employees at the jail. The problem I have is not with the deputies but with the leadership. Then there was putting a stop to the work crew. Anybody who knows me knows I dont want people sitting on their rear ends doing nothing while in jail. Again completely false. What I will put an end to is inmates who go unattended running about without proper supervision. Then I recently heard I would put a stop to religious services. This is ridiculous. I feel inmates need this more here than anywhere. I am not a career politician but I understand the tactic of using fear to persuade voters. I think this is not only unfair to me but unfair to the truth and to others. I have used facts only during my campaign. I have been attacked personally and professionally. 14 years of law enforcement has given me tough skin and broad shoulders. I however would find it a shame that anyone would cast a vote based on false information. I will tell you something that no other politician has the guts to say. That is. I am not perfect. I make mistakes. I am not infallible. I can say I am a public servant who truly believes I work for the people. I believe the government in every form belongs to the people. I have not taken any money whatsoever from any party,group or person for my campaign. It has been offered. I say no because I am beholden only to the people. Every person equally. Public service is about sacrifice. If your not willing to sacrifice. To put people above yourself then your in the wrong business. I am giving up a 20 year hazardous duty retirement and very likely my dream to become the next Sheriff of Union county to be your Jailer. I do this because I truly believe a change is needed at our jail. I believe it is needed now. I believe it is my responsibility to provide this change. I ask not just for your vote but for your trust as well. I can and will deliver given the chance. With sincere thanks, Jason Thomas your humble public servant.
