The events which motivated a child to be an warrior & fight for the nation.A confession: Who told you I havenot been in love? I am in love with the tricolor, the Ashoka emblem & the olive dress. I do have a great inclination for the armed forces. From my childhood my utter wish is to join the army & fight for my nation. But this is not mere craziness as one may think. My aim has certain foundations laid by the heroes fallen but not forgotten .Each time someone lays down his life in the name of the nation ,my zeal becomes more intense. The deeds of Bhagat Singh,Netaji SC Bose,CS Azad, KS Chandpuri,Manoj Pandey,Vikram Batra,Anuj Nayyar,SN Sarmah,JS Singh,Arun Khetarpal, etc enthrills me more than anything. But two of my relatives who had the previlege of being martyrs were the ideals who greatly influenced me. #1 Shaheed Udhab Das 197 field regiment , Indian Army I will not cry for my martyred son --Qouted the mother of Udhab Das.I was only 4-5 yrs old when the Kargil war broke out. At that time I didnt have any notion of war or martyrdom, the only thing I knew was that one of my cousin who was a soldier in the Indian Army was back home. But unusually this time he was not alone ,a very long convoy of cars of the mamas (we used to address the soldiers as mamas, they too treated us as their nephews), alongwith someone called CM visited our small village. The kothar ali, presently NH127-A was literally flooded by people. The sound of military bands rocked the area. I had no idea what was happening, I only knew that my cousin was no more a living man. I saw his head totally dismantled.Later on his body was creameted that very night. I can clearly remember the sounds of the saluting fires.Though I couldnt understand anything ,his death untimely demise really shocked me. #2 Shaheed Dhaneshwar Das,CRPF It was not more than 3 years when another death eletrified me. It was my uncle Shaheed Dhaneshwar Das.He was the guy whom I met for a little while to remember but his influence on me is emmense. The few moments I remember spending with him are the greatest moments of my life.He was an excellently talented guy & was very good at handling situations. Being a CRPF jawan he was posted in J&K for the conduction of ongoing assembly elections there. The polls were over & they were returning to the strongrooms when a sudden assault was launced by the heavily armed jihadis on the convoy carrying the ballot boxes. The troop had no chance of retaliation. Attacks with grenade & sophisticated rifles continued untill it was scattered. Meanwhile we had no notion of the attack. It was the morning news the next day 9th of october 2002, I can still remember the voice of the AIR lady newsreader broadcasting the 7:00 am news that two sons of Assam had given the supreme sacrifice in the name of the nation in J&K polls. Till then we had no idea that my uncle could have the accidental privilege of being a martyr. After sometime a message arrived from the Army base camp located in our locality , they gave the indication that something had gone wrong. By 8-9 am , some officials from the Assam police & the circle office reached & read out a message sent by the CRPF HQ stating the dead of my uncle. The news was a bolt from the blue.Thousands of people tried to condol the grief stricken parents of whom he was the lone child. Later on the deadbody was cremated with national honour in the presence of several high ranked administrative. These had passed ,but since then I got to know that a certain country was behind all these deaths. A strong feeling of revenge & hatred grew up in my mind. It was during my high school days when the motive of the said nation became clear to me that though they dont have the ability to get engaged in face to face battle yet they are trying out the dirtiest methods to occupy the territory of J &K ,which formed the crown of the map of the Indian republic. J&K is a part of the Republic of India since october 1947 & no power can snatch it from us. Several times the heroes of my motherland had thrown away the external aggression.Their acts of heroism & their supreme sacrifice in the name of the motherland thrills me & increases my aspirations to be a part of these glorious forces standing as sentinels at the borders of India, guarding the 1.21 billion parents, brothers , sisters & the special 1! @gkd
