The explosion of ello shows us how unhappy we are with the way we have adapted and incorporated social media into our lives. I think we are looking for a collective do-over. Will ello get it right? Maybe. Maybe not. Was FaceBook a natural evolution of MySpace and that of Friendster? The ello manifesto holds the promise for something better. If that trust erodes (like it did with FB, then the market opens up for a new product. Ello is poised to capture users and keep them if they keep good on this promise of not making the user the product. Those flocking over here are more aware of this than most. I think when you are talking about the cost of doing business in the social media realm, the one that models on distribution, and open source wins. A platform that keeps the users info in their hand and truly shares rather than replicates wins. (Cross posted on ello)
