The fake Ektoplazm account on Youtube has been suspended! Ektoplazm Free Music has been terminated because weve received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material that the user posted. Nice work everyone :) For future reference: music on Ektoplazm is released with a permissive set of licenses to facilitate sharing and cultural exchange. Youre welcome to upload songs to Youtube or use them in your own videos as long as you arent part of some revenue-sharing program or running ads. If youre contributing to free culture then youre probably in the clear but if youre trying to profit from Creative Commons-licensed content with the NC (noncommercial) term youre probably violating the license if you havent secured permission from the original copyright owner (i.e. the label or artist, not me). This particular Youtube channel was additionally doing something even worse: impersonating Ektoplazm and soliciting donations from the community at large. This is definitely not okay! Anyhow, this is also a lesson for me. Obviously I need to get a Youtube channel and figure all that out! Its going to take me a little bit of time to figure this out (and I have a lot of other stuff Im working on) but the official presence is eventually going to coalesce here: https://youtube/channel/UCU4VKiZsXYYVkHpwhC1yDoQ Im already looking to secure a custom URL and all that jazz but Youtube doesnt make that easy before you have a bunch of subscribers and 30 days on the clock.
