The father of a girl who died few days ago at Dr. Erfan and Bagedo General Hospital in Jeddah is still calling on authorities to shut down the hospital. He refused to forgive the hospital from the grave mistake, which he said cost his daughter her life. He said, “It’s not the first time this hospital has committed a medical error. This is what the director of Jeddah Health Affairs Dr. Sami Badawood, said.” Badawood had called earlier for closing down the hospital because of its repeated medical errors. He said the hospital should be held accountable for the grave error, not only the doctor who performed the surgery. The girl’s father, Yasser Al-Sulaiman, said the doctor admitted he made a mistake, which left Zubaida dead. Zubaida was admitted to the hospital for an appendicitis operation. Al-Sulaiman was angry when he learned that the hospital issued a statement clearing itself of the medical error. He said, “I don’t understand this. The doctor admitted the mistake while the hospital denied it. My daughter’s blood is on the doctor’s hands.” Al-Sulaiman was close to his daughter the day she was pronounced dead at the hospital. He noticed how the whole medical team was trying to revive and resuscitate his daughter after her heart stopped for 45 minutes. He captured most of what had happened on his cell phone and is ready to report everything to investigators if an investigation takes place. “How could the hospital deny there was a medical error when the endoscopic tube was inserted in the wrong place, causing Zubaida to have a cardiac arrest on the spot?” He wondered. “What was the medical team doing while my daughter kept bleeding for 45 minutes?” Zubaida did not have any medical issues prior to being admitted to the hospital, her father said. “On that doomed day, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. I was so worried about her. I took her straight to the hospital where doctors decided to operate on her.” All Al-Sulaiman hopes now is that Jeddah Health Affairs investigates this case.
