The final decision to certify the STOP petitions lies with the City Clerks office. Today the Clerk, who I know takes very seriously her responsibility to protect the public, announced her decision to disqualify the STOP petitions based upon numerous legal flaws, including the fact that there were nine different versions of the petitions, and that the petitions omitted key pieces of information required by voters to make an informed decision. As I’ve stated before, given the 4000 jobs, the transformation of downtown and our ability to keep the Kings all at stake, I’ve had serious concerns about the integrity of the process and the underhanded attempt to subvert and trick voters with misrepresentations, hidden money, and misleading petition language. It is one thing to truly give the public an up or down vote - but that is not what STOP has sought to do. Beginning with the effort of a hedge fund manager who wants to move the Kings to Seattle, all the way through the collection and submission of the petitions, this attempt to kill jobs and take Sacramento backwards has been defined by hidden agendas that, when exposed, have been deemed to be legally flawed.
