The first meeting will be Sunday, September 15, from 3-5, at Pecan Terrace Farmhouse & The Little Farmhouse Library. Meetings will be held the second Sunday of every month. The Little Farmhouse Society The Little Farmhouse Society is a book club that is an extension of The Little Farmhouse Library, designated for children between grades 4-8. However, calling it a book club is merely a label. This program is so much more. At monthly meetings we will select a chapter and/or an age appropriate book to read and discuss. There will be a theme inspired discussion of each book. For example, we will dress in costume relating to the story, have food that is featured in the book, go on a field trip that corresponds, etc. Your child will enjoy the adventure of reading as we make the book more animated and come to life through the book club. Being an avid reader and a childrens book author is what has inspired me to open The Little Farmhouse Library, become an advocate for literacy, and share the gift and magic of reading with children. I organized a book club for women in July of 2010. We still meet once a month, and it has become an important part of each member’s life. We have all become friends, and have had meaningful experiences and discussions from the books we have shared together. We have all read many books we would have never picked up if it weren’t for the book club. My hope is for your children to share this kind of experience among their peers, and make important friendships too. They will also develop knowledge and self esteem through various activities they will participate in here at the farmhouse. We may cook, or bake in the kitchen, do farmhouse chores (clean the chicken coop, work in the garden, etc.). Kids will also learn about communication, problem solving, and team building through adventure games and trust activities. This also includes the added benefits of being outdoors, engaging in physical activity, and being away from technological gadgets. There will also be activities taught from the Project Wild Curriculum, a conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife. Bring your child to the farmhouse to enjoy and share in this great adventure! In 2005 I traveled with Baylor on a mission trip to Kenya, Africa, where we taught a project adventure program to ministers, children, and other people who lived in the small villages. Here I gained knowledge and experience with the curriculums mentioned. I am also a retired police officer. Currently, I work as an interior designer, my attorney father’s personal assistant at mediations, and, most importantly, a full time mother.
