The first of the main UAE MTB races was held at Showka hosted by the Filipino group UAE MountainBiking. A huge turnout of almost 160 riders for the eliminator style race meant that to qualify for the final, riders had to finish in the top 4 of their heat of 10 riders. The technical 3.5km course had several trail sections not used in racing before, some new trails created especially for this event, 2 rock garden wadi crossings and 2 descent drops certainly not for beginner riders. Team CycleHubs rockstar MTB rider Tom Little went in heat 5 of the qualifiers and cruised home in 2nd behind Frank Jussaud of Hot Cogs stretching his in-form legs Into the final, with 38 starters on the short course the first 500 mtrs was all out for the first singletrack section. Frank the crank attacked into the track never to be seen again and continue on to win by a huge 4 minutes. Behind, Tom & Al Ain rider Fransceso Parutto continued the remainder of the race attacking each other. Tom decided to leave it until the last big rock wadi crossing 500 mtrs out to attack but Francesco dug deep to hold on for 2nd place by just 6 seconds. Only 17 riders finished the final. Well done to all. Great crowd, great atmosphere as usual!
