The first tests proof: Trees can talk! Last week Jalila and George from BioArt Laboratories used a tree in front of their laboratory to successfully communicate with Finland. They also communicated using the same tree in Morse code with Kassel in Germany. No damage was done to the tree. They used a simple copper coil which is put around the trunk of the tree. Besides talking, and sending morse code it is also possible to send images or other stuff. As Jalila says if internet goes down, you can always use your own tree to send and receive! Although in winter the trees will lose some of their receiving and sending power due to the slowing of the flow of juices. The tree-antenna project will become an interactive website for which you can tune in with your own tree. Naturalis, the botanic garden in Delft and the University of Nijmegen have already showed interest, and will join with their own tree. Are you interested to tab into the tree antenna network?
