The first thing that caught my eye about this little piece of church history was “Brush Arbor”. The name kind of gives a clue, but I’ve never seen one, didn’t know exactly what they looked like. So I asked my friend, Mr. Google, and sure enough he knew exactly what I was talking about. Imagine if you will located a couple or three blocks south west of the public square in Toledo axes and hatchets and cross-cut saws being plied in an effort to erect poles, cut scrub brush and pile a Brush Arbor similar to the ones shown below under which to hold a revival that lasted seven weeks. Split logs on stubby legs being used for pews. I’ll bet it was noisy down in that part of town back in 1937. The neighbors must have been either very tolerant, or may have came on over and simply joined in. Charles Seeley was the Pastor, Roscoe VanScyoc the Sunday School Superintendent, Max Browning later becoming the same. The first church secretary-treasurer was Mrs. Earl Woolen, later those duties being handled by Mrs. Hink Starwalt. The first frame-structure church building was constructed in 1939. This building still exists, contained within the confines of the modern-day facility.
