The flower that you hold in your hands was born today and already it is as old as you are. ~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943 Hello World! I’m happy to report that as of this posting I’m still on the topside of the grass, and for that I’m grateful. The real question puzzling me today is…how much longer do I have left before my relationship with the grass shifts from a tender of the blades to a feeder of the roots? …It amazes me how quickly it seems time passes, but as a favorite quote of mine from Henry Austin Dobson states ~“Time goes, you say? Ah no! Alas, Time stays, we go.” ~ I went online to wish my niece “happy birthday” on her face book page and took a few minutes to look at her recent photos. As I sat here looking at her pictures, my smile had to pause to allow the drop of water running down my cheek to slip on passed…Having fathered a son but no daughter, Savannah has always been “my own little girl”…the one whom I could dress up in pink frills and lace and buy Barbie’s for on holidays. [NOTE: I did try this out on Zacharey (my son) but he just couldn’t get the “hang” of wearing a tiara!]…LOL. Looking through her snapshots I sadly became conscious that…my “little girl” was gone forever…but I was filled with wonder, amazement, and happiness at the realization that a beautiful, intelligent, sensible woman had taken her place. An honor student almost into her Jr. year at Troy University! Armed with the knowledge she is acquiring, I know this young woman will soon venture out and share her beauty, knowledge, and kindness with the world…how fortunate for those who will come under her tutelage. Since she was a small child, she has been possessed of a compassion to help others which has always astounded me. I have to admit that my selfishness would want her to always be my “little girl“…but my admiration of her encourages me to urge her to continue to become that full grown woman, with the potential to change for the better the lives of countless others…am I a proud uncle?…Absolutely, but only because she makes me so. I encourage my friends with “little girls and boys” of your own to enjoy the days of “Fairy Princesses” and “Cowboys & Indians” while they last…you just turn around and their grown. My wish for you, Savannah Hill, is that you have not only a Happy 20th Birthday, but that you have a Happy Every Single Day of Your Life…May the wishes of the God of your understanding govern the aspirations of your heart…Wishing peace and love to those wish for me the same and more so for those who wish me otherwise, Jeffo.
