The following Letter to the Editor was released to the Denver Post and area newspapers in response to an article in the Denver Post on Sunday, November 3rd. Dear Editor Imagine the surprise that my Board and I experienced when we read the article by Monte Whaley in the Denver Post this past Sunday, November 3rd that referenced Progressive 15. Mr. Sean Conway interjected his opinion as to how the political influence of Eastern Colorado might be enhanced by a Club 20 type organization within the region. Eastern Colorado is served by two Club 20 type regional organizations; Action 22, Southeastern Region and San Luis Valley and Progressive 15, East Central and Northeastern Region. Each is recognized by much of the established economical and business organizations as a reference for informational input and/or political support. Since neither Commissioner Conway nor the Weld County Board of Commissioners are members of Progressive 15, how can they speak for what we do or don’t do without participating in our meetings or more importantly what we should or should not do? Progressive 15, functioning since 2000, has worked to advocate for policies and legislation that will help the Northeast region of Colorado, which is mostly rural. We work in a nonpartisan way for the health of the region rather than any one particular interest. At any given time, we might be working on telecommunications, healthcare, transportation, agriculture, local government, energy, education or small business. Our membership is diverse and representative of all the interests of the region. We continually build partnerships with not only Club 20 and Action 22, but with other statewide groups to educate on issues unique to rural Colorado. Club 20 does not need to be transplanted to Northeast Colorado, because we are already here in the form of Progressive 15, established for the very same reasons Club 20 was organized over 50 years ago. Before another group is formed we would invite Commissioner Conway and others in the 15 counties and numerous towns of Progressive 15 to join with us, an already established group, and work together to address the issues facing us in rural Colorado. Counties in the Progressive 15 membership area include Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Douglas, Elbert, Kit Carson, Larimer, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld and Yuma. If anyone would like to see what we are about, please visit our website at progressive15.org. Cathy Shull Executive Director Progressive 15
