The following is a trail run report (I am not a writer...be warned) No need to comment: 30 miles. Self supported. Actually, I had to cut it short by two miles as I ran out water (took 96 oz with me). Since I am not a gel guy, the challenge was in finding a food source that help me thru the day: after doing some reading: bacon jerky, humus, olive spread, peanut butter (all wrapped in foil) and salted potatoes. I managed to fit all of it in Peter Bakwin 2.0 bag from UD. Started at 4am again, with Orions belt overhead. No headlamp. I startled a coyote after a bend and I could have sworn he growled at me. The area was the scene of my very first DNF in 2013 during the Chino Hills 50K. Temps then were brutal but today offered a respite. Only 80 degrees. I wanted to get rid of that fear factor. Attacked each hill strong and flew on the downhill. This is was an awesome feeling compared to last year; in 2013, I DNF-ed after 10 hours(!)...and I was about half way done. Today I nailed it under 7 hours. 28.8 miles instead of 30. Elevation Gain: 3763 feet. Oh, and I got rid of that fear factor.
