The following roads in the City of Suffolk will have closures that could cause delays, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, due to construction and maintenance projects: New Projects: (Route 58) – A contractor will be maintaining vegetation along Route 58 from Route 460/Pruden Boulevard to the Chesapeake line. (Route 460/Pruden Boulevard) – A contractor will have a right westbound lane closure on Route 460/Pruden Boulevard from Lake Prince Drive to Gardner Lane until 3:30 p.m. (Bridge Road) – A contractor will have a right shoulder closure on Bridge Road between Bennetts Creek Lane and Lee Farm Lane until 4 p.m. (Hampton Roads Parkway) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have a right lane closure on Hampton Roads Parkway between Huntersville and College Drive. (Washington Street & North Street) – A contractor will have a lane closure at Washington Street and North Street until 3 p.m. (Carolina Road) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have a flagging operation on Carolina Road between Copeland Road and Whaleyville Boulevard until 3 p.m. (Route 58) – A contractor will have a work zone for milling operations on Route 58/Holland Road between Elwood Road and Leafwood Road until 3 p.m. (Holland Road/Route 58) – A contractor will close the outer eastbound lane of Holland Road/Route 58 to construct a 16-inch water main within the south shoulder from the Center Point Development to the Village of Holland by the use of permanent concrete jersey barriers. The area of permanent closures will extend 2,500 linear feet per work zone and will periodically move along with the construction effort. The contractor is estimating working 12 hour days, Monday through Saturday, weather and daylight permitting. During major holidays (Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, and 4th of July), the permanent barriers will be removed the day before the holiday by 12 p.m. and re-established the following work day. The project is anticipated to be completed by late Summer 2014. Ongoing Projects: (Shoulders Hill Road and Nansemond Parkway intersection) – A contractor continues with ongoing work at the intersection of Shoulders Hill Road and Nansemond Parkway. The contractor will have lane closures in various locations in the project, Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Longstreet Lane) – A project to perform rehabilitation services and maintenance to the bridge located in the 8000 block of Longstreet Lane is underway and is set for completion on July 24, 2013. During the project, Longstreet Lane will be closed at the bridge until work is complete. Thru traffic will be detoured to alternate routes as needed. (Route 10/Godwin Boulevard) – A contractor will have a southbound shoulder closure on Route 10/Godwin Boulevard between the Reids Ferry Bridge and 1000 feet north of the Pump Station. They will also have a lane closure in the northbound lane from Sack Point Road to Harrell Drive from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This pipe installation project will continue for the next three to five months. The contractor will also have a lane closure in the outside northbound lane on Godwin Boulevard 1000 feet before the two lanes of traffic merge to one. This closure will be in effect day and night for the next 3 weeks while large sections of pipe are being installed (Pruden Boulevard) - A contractor will have the right eastbound lane on Pruden Boulevard closed from Meade Parkway to the 2500 block of Pruden Boulevard (Pump Station) until 3:00 p.m. This closure will be in effect periodically until October 2013 while a new pump station is constructed. The closure is required immediately in front of the site due to equipment and material deliveries. (North Main Street) - A contractor installing a sewer force main will have a lane closure in the right eastbound lane on North Main Street between Holly Lawn Cemetery and the Suffolk Shopping Center from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. nightly (Bridge Road/Mills Godwin Bridge) – A contractor will utilize a flagging operation at the Bridge Road/Mills Godwin Bridge Sunday through Thursday. This will be night work taking place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting. (Market Street & Henley Place) – Thru traffic on Market Street and Henley Place will be restricted until further notice to facilitate additional pavement and concrete work for the City of Suffolk E-911/Municipal Center project. The west entrance to the Main Municipal Center Parking Lot will be closed. All public and staff traffic to the Human Resources Building will utilize the same entrance and travel along the north side of the parking lot to the building. Access to the Human Resources Building can also happen via Washington Street to Pender Street on the west side of the Police Administration Building. (Everets Road) – Suffolk Department of Public Utilities will have a flagging operation with the right lane closed on Everets Road from the 6500 block to Moore Farm Lane from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for the next six months. (Village of Holland) – A contractor will have periodic flagging operations in place on Ruritan Boulevard, South Quay Road, and Holland Road Business and side streets within the Holland Village area, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., installing new water mains. The expected completion date is September 2013.
