The footage of the young boy rescuing a young girl in Syria was staged and filmed in Malta. The intention apparently was to raise awareness about children in conflict. If the director had wanted to do that he could have circulated some of the footage that already exists of children wounded or killed in the conflict or the everyday instances of heroism as people struggle against the regime. That might have required people to confront the reality of the tens of thousands of disabled and mutilated children in Syria, which isnt as pleasant as constructing a fake tale about a boy rescuing a young girl where no one dies.
