The game on Sunday was a killer of a game!! Red team were a British rapid response unit and had secured a forward observation base – smack in the middle of the yellow team’s stronghold. The base was located at the T junction of Highway 666. It was a well fortified base and hopefully it would take anything the yellow team could throw at it. Half the yellow team started from base Alpha. The remaining half started from the mortar pit, where a mortar tube was already waiting. The red team had to hold the FOB at all costs if they were overrun it would be game over. Within the red team were a small force of SF, these were the only players allowed out of the perimeter of the FOB. They were tasked with capturing the mortar within a designated time period; failure in completing this task would allow the yellow team to bring the mortar forward to a pre-designated location, where they could devastate the FOB. A mortar landing in the FOB would be indicated by a Mark 5 pyro being detonated. The red team would know when a strike was incoming by the sound of an air raid siren. The red SF team were having problems fighting their way out of the FOB not surprisingly as the whole base was totally surrounded, but this did not stop them trying to push out at every opportunity. I watched them five times trying to fight their way out only to be forced back into the base. Great Effort. At this time the red team knew they had to concentrate on the task of keeping those bloody yellows out of the perimeter of the FOB. If it was not for their medics constant efforts keeping their team mates in the game it would have ended a lot quicker than it did. With constant shouts of “medic” they must have been run ragged. I was so caught up in the game even I started shouting “get those dead players back on the trigger” it was that intense. To say this FOB was in a hostile environment would be an understatement. With about 30 minutes to go the yellows were on the perimeter and the sound of BB’s hitting the barricades sounded like someone was using a minigun. Unfortunately for me I was inside the perimeter taking photos and I thought I would get shredded at any moment. Some of the reds started to shoot towards the nose of the helicopter. The yellows had broken through – the first to yellows were nailed but the rest pushed on into the base. After a short but intense fire fight the yellow team took the base and started the second part of the objective – removing the aviation fuel back to the mortar pit. Shortly after this it was game over. Every red player in the team did their best to hold the FOB and the medics were outstanding. Excellent play red team. Yellow team you kept the pressure on constantly. Once you made it to the perimeter and forced your way into the base the game was only going to end one way. Well played. Back to the safe zone for some well earned R and R. 45 minutes later time to lock and load. Yellow team moved into the FOB and started to make themselves at home. With Their SF team ready to go it was game on. The reds held on to their mortar against the yellows SF attack and eventually moved it to its secondary location. Just before they could fire it on the FOB the yellow SF team realised what was going on and counter attacked the mortar position. They successfully took control of the area keeping the mortar out of the hands of the reds until the end of the game. So what happened to the red team in the afternoon? I think they spread themselves a little too thin and could not make any headway with their attacks on the yellow FOB. They played an excellent game in the morning because most of their team were in the FOB communication was not a problem as every player could see what was happening and could counter any move the yellows made. But when you are spread over the entire woodland it’s a whole different ball game. Well played both teams. Yellow Win. Mentioned in dispatches:- Baloo Da Bear (Dan) as you know Dan is a big lad – he fell over, twisted his ankle on his way to the floor only took out one of our trees. The tree is beyond help but hopefully we will see Dan back soon. I believe Tent had something to do with Dan falling over. We would advise everyone to stay away from Tent as he fell over earlier in the day and winded himself. Pop up tent, George (his son) just stood there laughing – on Father’s day as well. To the player that needs a little bit of dental work, hope you are OK. The red player at the end of the day in the HVT game who stormed the hooch occupied by a gang of opposing players and shot most of them – outstanding. Over the last six months we have been seeing lots of first time players and when I speak to them at the end of the day the feedback is always great to hear. Some of the comments are “I’m totally exhausted” “I’m so hyper I won’t be able to sleep tonight” but most of the comments are about how friendly the players are and the banter between the opposing teams and the more experienced players taking the time to give advice on how the game is played. Even the marshals get a mention of being helpful and friendly. I’ll have to put a stop to this as we don’t want Spartan to gain a reputation of having helpful and friendly staff Spartan would like to give you all a pat on the back as your attitude can only bring more players into the airsoft game. Beard over and out
