The gospel of St John chapters 3 and 4. Chapter III 1. There was now a man of the pharisies named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jewes. 2. He came to Emmanuel by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man could do these miracles that thou doeth, except God were with him. 3. Emmanuel answered and said unto him, verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4. Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born which is old? Can he enter intohis mothers womb again, and be born? 5. Emmanuel answered, Verely, verely I say unto you , except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God. 6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh: and that that is born of the spirit, is spirit. 7. Marvel not I said unto thee, ye must be born again. 8. The wind bloweth where it liketh, and thou heareth the sound therof, but can not tell whence it cometh, and where it goeth: so is every man that is born of the spirit. 9. Nicodemus answered, and said unto him , How can this thing be? 10. Emmanuel answered, and said unto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knoweth not these things? 11. Verely, verely I say unto thee, we speak what we know, and testafy, that we have seen: but ye receive not our witness. 12. If when I tell you earthly things, ye believe not, how should ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things? 13. For no man ascendeth up to heaven, ut he that hath decendeth from heaven, the Son of man which is in heaven. 14. And as Moses lift up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of man be lift up. 15. That whoever believeth in him. should not perish, but have eternal life. 16. For God so loved the world that he hath given his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17. For God sent not his Son into the world, that he should condem the world, but that the world through him might be saved. 18. He that believeth in him, shall not be condemned: But he that believeth not , is condemned already, because he believeth not in the Name of the only begotten Son of God. 19. And this is the condemnation, that light has come unto the world, and they loved darkness rather than light, because their dedes were evil. 20. For everyman that doeth evil, hateth the light, neither cometh to light, lest his dedes should be reproved. 21. But he that doeth trueth, cometh to the light, that his dedes might be manifest, they that are wrought according to God. 22. After these things, came Emmanuel and his deciples unto the land of Judea, and there tarried with them and baptized. 23. And John also baptized in Enon besides Salim, because there was so much water there: and they came, and were baptized. 24. For John was not yet cast into prison. 25. The there arose a question between Johns deciples and the Jewes, about purifying. 26. And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom tou barest witness, he baptizeth, and all men come to him. 27. John answered, and said , A man can receive nothing , except it be given him from heaven. 28. Ye yourselves are my witnesses, that I said, I am not the christ, but am sent before him. 29. He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom which stateth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly, because of the bridegrooms voice. This my joy is therfore fulfilled. 30. He must increase, but I must decrease. 31. He that is come from on high, is above all: he that is of the earth, is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth: he that is come from heaven, is above all. 32. And what he hath sene and heard, that he testifieth: but no man receiveth his tesimony. 33. He that hath received his testimony hath sealed that God is true. 34. Foe whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth him not the spirit by measure. 35. The father loveth ths son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36. He that believeth in the son, hath everlasting life, and he tht believeth not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth in him. Chapter IIII 1. Now when theLord knew, how the pharisis had heard, that Emmanuel made and baptizedmore deciples then John, 2. (Though Emmanuel him self baptized not: but his deciples) 3. He left Judea, and departed again into Galile. 4. And he must needs to go through Sameria. 5. Then came he to a city of Sameria called Sychar, near unto the profession that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6. And there was Jacobs well. Emmanuel the wearied in the journey, sat thus on the well: it was about the sixth hour. 7. There came a woman of Sameria to draw water. Emmanuel said unto her, Give me drink. 8. For his deciples were gone away into the city, to buy meat. 9. The said the woman of Sameria unto him, thatn thou being a Jew, asketh drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jewes meddle not with the Samarians. 10. Emmanuel answered and said unto her, if thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me drink, thou would have asked of him, and he would have given thee the water of life. 11. The woman said unto him, Sir, thou have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that water of life? 12. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and he himself drank thereof, and his children, and his cattle? 13. Emmanuel answered, and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh this water, shall thirst again. 14. But whsoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never be more thirst:but the water I shall give him, shalbe in him a well of water, springing up into everlasting life. 15. The woman said unto him, Sir, give me of that water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to draw. 16. Emmanuel said unto her, Go, call thine husband, and come hither. 17. Emmanuel said to her, Thou hast well said I have no husband. 18. For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast, is not thine husband. 19. The women said unto him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet. 20. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21. Emmanuel said unto her, Woman believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor at Jerusalem worship the Father. 22. Ye worship that which thee know not: we worship that which we know: for salution is of the Jewes. 23. But the hour cometh, and is now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for the Father requireth even such to worship him. 24. God is a spirit, and they that worshiphim, must worship him in spirit and truth. 25. The woman said unto him, I know well the Messiah shall come, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26. Emmanuel said unto her, I am he, that speak unto thee. 27. And upon that came his deciples, and marveled that he talked with a woman: yet no man said unto him, What asketh thou? or why talketh thou with her? 28. The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and said to me, 29. Come, see a man which hath told me all things ever I did: is not he the Christ? 30. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. 31. In the meanwhile, the deciples prayed him, saying, master, eat. 32. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat, that ye know not of. 33. Then said the deciples between themselves, hath any man brought him meat? 34. Emmanuel said unto them, My meat is that I do the will of him that sent me, and finish his work. 35. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the regions: for they are white already unto harvest. 36. And he that reapeth, , receiveth wages, and gethereth fruit unto life eternal, that be the he that soweth, and he reapeth, , might rejoice together. 37. For herein is the saying true, that one soweth and another reapeth. 38. I sent you to reap that, whereon ye bestowed no labor: Other men labored, and ye are enterred into the into their labors. 39. Noe many of the Samaritins of that city believed in him, for the saying of the woman that testified. He hath told me all things that ever I did. 40.Then when the Samaritins were come unto him, they besoght him, that he would tarie with them: and he abode there two days. 41. And many more believed because of his own word. 42. And they said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him our selves, and know this is indeed the Christ the savior of the world. 43.So two days after he departed thence, and went into Galile, 44. For Emmanuel himself had testified that a prophet hath none honor in his own country. 45. Then when he was come into Galile, the Galatians received him, which had seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they went also unto the feast. 46. And Emmanuel came again into Cana a town in Galile, where he had made the water wine, and there was a certain ruler whos son was sick at Capernaum. 47. When he heard Emmanuel was come out of Judea into Galile, he went unto him, and besought him that he should go down, and heal his son: for he was even ready to die. 48. Then sais Emmanuel unto him, except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49. The ruler said unto him, Sir, go down before my son dies. 50. Emmanuel said unto him,Go thy way, thy son liveth: and the man believed the word Emmanuel had spokenunto him, and went his way. 51. And he was now going down, his servents met him, saying, thy son liveth. 52. Then he enquired of the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday the seventh hour the fever left him. 53. Then the father knew, that it was the same hour in which Emmanuel had said unto him, Thy son Liveth. 54. This second Miracle did Emmanuel again, after he was come out of Judea into Galile.
